The German Green Youth visit Israel in May

11.05-21.05.2005
A delegation from the German Green Youth (GAJB) will visit Israel for ten days from the 12th until the 22nd of May 2005. The 10 delegates from age 18 to 28 want to deepen their knowledge about Israeli society, history and environmental issues and to contact several political organisations. The Green Youth is the federal youth organization of the German Green Party (Alliance 90/The Greens). It was founded in January 1994 and numbers today nearly 5.600 members. The Green Youth is a social, ecological, non-violent and grassroots democratic group. Our agenda is based on numerous issues:  gender equality, renewable energies and the anti-nuclear movement. We believe that all conflicts should be solved peacefully and strongly oppose violence. Furthermore the Green Youth looks critically at the current impact of globalization.

The Green Youth has visited Israel already once five years ago. Now they plan to revive their commitment to an exchange of ideas with young Israelis to, eventually leading to a permanent exchange program. ConAct ( http://www.conact-org.de/ ) and the Heinrich Boell Foundation , Israel office ( http://www.boell.org.il/ ) support the visit.

The program will be as follows: 4 days in Haifa, Nazareth and upper Galilee in cooperation with the student organisation Cegas (The Committee for Educational Guidance for Arab Students) in order to learn about Israeli society from the perspective of young Arab-Israelis and their organisations.. The program includes meetings with associations working in social, cultural, political, environmental and human right issues depicting the life of the Palestinian Arab minority in Israel.

In the second part of the journey the group visits Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. They will see Yad Va’Shem and they will meet there with Holocaust survivors.
Planned are furthermore: meetings with social organizations, environmental NGOs, political organizations like Yachad Youth, New Profile, Machsom Watch and a visit in the Knesset including a meeting with Member of Knesset.
